(Munnar, India. 2005)
Tea plantations at 2000 meters above sea level. Most residents of Munnar are employed in the Tea Industry but women do the hardest work: hand picking tea leaves. An experienced plucker can pluck up to 30 kg. of tea leaves per day. To make one kg. of black tea approx. 4 kg. leaves are needed. These women are working more than 12 hours a day in difficult weather conditions--cold, wet fog or the blazing sun. Every time we drink a cup of tea we should remember these women and try to act to improve their working conditionss.
