San Bushwomen

This photograph features a group of San bushwomen in the Kalahari desert, in Botswana, Africa. One of the women carries a young girl on her back, in a traditional style sling. The San are generally considered to be the oldest culture in the world, and their hunter-gatherer lifestyle becomes more difficult to maintain with each passing year. Traditionally, it is the men who hunt, while the women gather plants that provide both food and water for the tribe. This group of San bushpeople also supports itself by leading desert walks and speaking with visitors about the San history and customs.
