About Me:
Shaktima Brien is a contemporary, Feminist, Expressionist painter in the tradition of Judy Chicago, Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keefe. Born in Montreal, Canada, from the age of four she questions the great Mystery. The quest leads her to California, where she paints the “Goddess Journey”, a series of 33 paintings (acrylic on canvas, 3 to 12 feet, 20 years in the making). In 2008, the painting “Being” (a female Buddha) was selected for the Palm Springs Art Museum - Artists Council 2008 Juried Exhibition, while her painting "Shamans" received an "Honorable Mention" at the 10th Juried Art Show of the City of Palm Springs - Public Arts Commission. In 2007, a one-woman exhibition was held at the Magdalene Art Center in North Hollywood. In 2004, some of her paintings were exhibited at the UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History for the Premiere of “Signs out of Time”, a film on Marija Gimbutas (“The Language of the Goddess”) sponsored by UCLA Women’s Studies, Women’s Heritage Project and Bellili Productions. In 2001, Brien's screenplay "Road Yin" wins the first place at The Palm Springs Writers' Guild Contest. In the 90’s, besides being a repeated guest on the television show "Passion" with Donna Lynn, Brien’s work was selected by Judy Freeman, Associate Curator of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for the “Women in Contemporary Art” exhibition, while others were sold at the Shirley MacLaine and Whoppi Goldberg Art Auction. “The Goddess Journey" Art Book is coming out in 2008. Shaktima Brien is a member of the Palm Springs Art Museum Artist Council.
