For me, this issue is not about some pluralist Westernised concept of democracy being drafted into these cultures. This is more about what these women really want for themselves.

I therefore leave the question of personal democracy entirely open to you, the viewer - the stitches over the mouth can be interpreted as censorship, or bald defiance, depending on your point of view.
